World Youth Day 2023

From 20th July to 10th August 2023 Oblate Youth Australia will be travelling to Lisbon, Portugal for the World Youth Day Pilgrimage.

We are planning to join with Bishop Mark Edwards and the Wagga Diocese on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Lisbon for WYD before finishing our trip in Aix-En-Provence – the birthplace of our founder St Eugene de Mazenod.

The indicative cost for WYD has been quoted at $9930 and includes airfares, accommodation, registration for WYD, tours and most meals.  Please note that at this stage, this is only an indicative quote.

We are now taking expressions of interest for the pilgrimage and you can find more information and a detailed itinerary by visiting:

Synod of Bishops 2021-23
On Sunday, 17th October, dioceses around the world will launch local preparations for the Synod of Bishops, which has the theme:
For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission

The Catholic Church in Australia will invite the People of God to make submissions via an online portal that will open on 17th October.
A page on the Bishops Conference website has been set up as a hub for Synod of Bishops content.  It has links to the preparatory document and vademecum (handbook) for the Synod, and a video produced by the Sydney Centre for Evangelisation explaining the Synod process.

Given the significant interest in the Synod of Bishops and its relationship with the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia, there is a document on that web page showing the anticipated timelines and milestones for those two important journeys.  Those submissions will help the bishops develop a national report to support the global process leading to an international gathering in 2023.

Below are a number of resources about the Synod of Bishops.
